Circulation

New Loan Period and Overdue Fine Schedule

BORROWING CHANGES IN STORE! (Dec 2011)

In an effort to improve access to our materials and simplify your borrowing experience, we are making three major changes to our circulation policy that will affect your check outs. These changes are expected to take place during our “slow” week between Christmas and New Years. (Yes, we’re open that week and working for you!).

Can I borrow this? YES!

While we will continue to have a small reference collection at all branches, we are going to allow almost our entire collection to circulate to our members. Of course, archival or rare items, superseded works and certain selected materials will stay put, but we’re opening up a huge part of our collection for our members to borrow. Don’t forget to bring your library card – a replacement is only $1 if you’ve mislaid it.

A single loan period: 4 days, with a 4-day renewal at all branches.

How simple can it be? No matter what item you borrow, it will be available to you for 4 days, with one renewal that extends the loan to 8 days. We want to keep these materials moving and available to our members, and as always we encourage you to return materials on a timely basis.

Our overdue fines will be $2 per day.

We are encouraging all our members to make use of our super-easy online renewal system, and not to accrue overdue fines. You don’t need us to renew your book for you, just grab your library card & visit our website (sdcpll.org). Fines reaching $10 will block borrowing privileges.

Questions? Contact Kim at 619-685-6557.

Borrowing Materials

While any member of the public may conduct research in the library, only registered members may borrow materials. Attorneys & non-attorneys may join the library. Please see our Memberships page and Borrower's Rules for more information.

Most library materials now circulate for 4 days, with one 4-day renewal period.

Returning Materials / Book Drops

To avoid overdue fines, materials may be returned to any of our locations. For your convenience, three of our branches (Main, North County and South Bay) have external bookdrops that are collected every day the branch is open. Materials borrowed from one branch may be returned to any other branch. When checked in, materials are “backdated” to the last day the branch was open.

Computers

Public computers are available at all library locations for conducting legal research and accessing government documents. Patrons must sign up with library staff. A 30-minute time limit will be applied when other users are waiting. View the Library’s Technology Use Policy for further information.

Conference Rooms

The Law Library offers meeting space at each of its branches. A minimum 24-hour reservation is required.

Law library members may reserve a room for free. Non-library members pay $25/hour (all or part), non-refundable.

All room reservations require a $100 refundable security deposit. This deposit will be kept on file and returned to the user at the end of the meeting if the room is determined to be left in the condition in which it was found; otherwise the $100 will be charged.

View the Library’s Conference Room Policy for further information.

Once you have verbally confirmed the availability of the room, you may download the Conference Room Application and fax a signed copy to the respective branch.
