January MCLE Schedule
The compliance period for State Bar members whose last names begin
with the letters A-G ends January 31, 2007. The SDCPLL Librarians
have put together an exciting mix of live programs and new DVD titles
to help you fulfill your requirements. We are offering a variety of
MCLE classes throughout January,
including a "cram" day on January 31, 2007, with DVD programs
running from 8:30 a.m. until 5:45 p.m at the Main Library.
As one of the benefits of SDCPLL membership for attorney and
paralegal members, the Library offers these FREE participatory credit
programs at both the Main Library and the North County Branch.
Registration is limited, so please call early to reserve your
place. To register for programs at the Main Library, please call
619-531-3900. For North County Branch registration, please call
760-940-4386.
For more information and to see the complete calendar of MCLE
programs planned for January, go to

New Public Access Computers at All SDCPLL Locations
The Library is pleased to announce the arrival of our new patron
computer stations. The installation of the new computers is complete
at the Main branch. Installation at the North County, East County and
South Bay branches will be completed early in 2007.
There are many noticeable differences between our "old" computers
and the new public PCs. Here is a list of some of our favorites:
Install & play CDs & DVDs on all new public access computers ...
of course, you'll need to bring your headphones for the audio
applications.
Each computer is an "all-in-one" unit, equipped with 19"
adjustable monitors. This means that the PC and the monitor are
connected. All ports, such as diskette drives, CD-RW/DVD drives, USB
ports, and even headphone jacks will be easily accessible from the
work surface. Users will no longer need to reach under the desk to
locate the USB ports. (You'll need to get your stretching in another
way). Did we mention that you can burn CDs on all of these computers,
too?
All computers have a standard desktop interface and applications,
which look and feel like your home PC. All users will have full
access to the Start menu, the Microsoft Office Standard suite of
software (including MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint), our online
databases, and, of course, Internet access for legal research. You
will even be able to use your copy, cut, & paste shortcuts!
These are some of our favorite features of the new computers.
We'd be interested to know what you think. You can e-mail us with
your comments at
newgear@sdcpll.org.

Introducing CEB's OnLAW Database
The Library will be offering FREE access to CEB's OnLaw database in
early 2007.
The Continuing Education of the Bar's OnLAW database is a tool
that puts CEB's practice books and action guides in an easy-to-use
digital format. Currently, there are over 100 CEB publications
available through OnLAW, with more being added every month. All
citations of California cases and codes in the text are linked to the
primary law. OnLAW contains attorney-drafted forms that are fully
integrated into the text, with clauses accompanied by explanations
and directions. All forms can be downloaded into a word processing
program for later changes and additions. Patrons can search all of
OnLAW's publications by key word or select a specific publication and
browse through the table of contents.
Our January/February newsletter will contain more information
about an upcoming "Official" launch of OnLAW at the Library.
