About Law Week: May 1st - 5th
We have some exciting Law Week events planned at all locations this year, so please join us! All events during Law Week are FREE to the public. Law Week is a great opportunity to become more familar with your local Law Library and learn more about all the services and resources available. Please join us for our Special Guest Speakers, Open Houses, Legal Clinics and Legal Resource Knowledge Fairs. We look forward to seeing you!

For our legal community, please notice that several of our Special Guest Speaker Events qualify for FREE MCLE credit.

Special Guest Speakers for Law Week

Special Guest Speakers for this year's Law Week include:

Tues., May 1st:
"Small Claims Court Litigation and Consumer Law Issues"

Tues., May 1st:
"Technology & Time Sharing: Virtual Visitation and Other Innovations in Child Custody Plans" Guest Speaker, Dawn Bradley, author of the Divorce Sourcebook. North County Branch, 12pm to 1pm. Call 760-940-4386 to register.

Thurs., May 3rd:
"Foreclosure & Bad Mortgages:
How it happens & what you can do about it"
Guest Speaker, Attorney John Brady will be speaking on the topic of foreclosure law issues in California. Main Library, 12pm to1pm. Call 619-531-3900 to register.

Fri., May 4th:
City Attorney Michael Aguirre, Guest Speaker
"Access To Justice: Assuring Democracy in San Diego"

Pre-registration is required for Guest Speaker events, as seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served. Call the hosting Library branch to register.

Open Houses at SDCPLL Branches
Come see all your local Law Library has to offer, including our brand new public access computers. Join us for give-a-ways, contests and light refreshments. Open House hours vary by location, see below:


North County Branch (Vista) - 9am to 3pm
South Bay Branch (Chula Vista) - 10am to 2pm
East County Branch (El Cajon) - 11am to 3:30pm

FREE Legal Clinics
During Law Week, several free legal clinics will be available.

NORTH COUNTY BRANCH -
The North County Branch is hosting a free legal clinic provided by the North County Bar Association on Tuesday May 1, 2007 and Thursday May 3, 2007 from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm on both days in the Law Library located at the North County Regional Court complex at 325 S. Melrose Dr. #300, Vista.

Lawyers will be available for free consultation in criminal, family law, and civil law matters. The clinic's purpose is to provide general legal advice and referrals only. The free legal clinic is a public service event. Volunteer lawyers will not provide on-going representation.

EAST COUNTY BRANCH -
The East County Branch of the San Diego County Public Law Library and the Foothills Bar Association will present the 5th Annual Free Legal Clinic on Tuesday, May 1, from 11am to 3:30pm in the Law Library located on the first floor of the East County Regional Court complex at 250 East Main Street, El Cajon.

Attorneys will be available for consultation in estate planning and probate, family law, landlord/tenant, personal injury, immigration, and civil law matters. The clinic's purpose is to provide you with general legal advice and referrals only. The free legal clinic is a public service event. Volunteer attorneys will not provide on-going representation.

KOBEY'S SWAP MEET -
The Law Library will be participating in the Free Law Clinic at Kobey's Swap Meet, on Saturday, May 5th, from 8am to 3pm. The San Diego County Bar Association is hosting a free, walk-in law clinic at the Kobey's Swap Meet, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego.

Legal Resources Knowledge Fair
Through a joint effort of the San Diego County Court and the County Law Library, we are hosting a Legal Resources Knowledge Fair during Law Week, to bring awareness to the public of the many legal resources available throughout the County.

The Fair will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd, from 10am to 3pm, at each Regional Court complex.

Downtown San Diego
Hall of Justice, 330 W. Broadway, San Diego

North County
Regional Court Complex, 325 S. Melrose Dr., Vista

East County
Regional Court Complex, 250 E. Main St., El Cajon

South Bay
Regional Court Complex, 500 Third Ave., Chula Vista

Tables will be set up with literature describing legal resources available from the San Diego County Courts, the Law Library, and other non-profit legal organizations.

Children's Book Drive
The San Diego County Bar Association's Children At Risk Commitee is holding its 5th Annual Children's Book Drive.

You can drop off new or gently used children's books for grades Kindergarten thru 12th, at any of the San Diego County Public Law Library's four locations during the month of May.

Books will be donated to the Family Justice Center and local San Diego community schools.
