A Primer on Special Needs Trusts and Public Benefit Programs

Photo of Philip Lindsley, Esq. Attorney Philip Lindsley will provide invaluable insight, legal strategy and tips for understanding the basic concepts of the Public Benefits and Special Needs Trust rules and regulations. The presentation will include:

> How to tell the difference between "means-tested" and "entitlement" benefit programs, and why it's so important to know the difference.
> What are the most common public benefit programs, and which can be affected by settlement or inheritance, which are not?
> How to plan for the future of the special needs individual.
> What are the options for someone on public benefits who is receiving a settlement or inheritance?
> What is a "special needs trust"? When is one needed, and when is it not?
> What are the various types of special needs trusts?

About the Speaker: Attorney Philip P. Lindsley is a widely recognized elder and disability law attorney. He is a certified Elder Law Attorney and a certified legal specialist in the area of estate planning, trust and probate law. Mr. Lindsley has been practicing law for over 25 years and currently practices in the area of Medi-Cal and public benefits planning, asset protection, special needs trusts, probate administration, conservatorships and their alternatives.

Mr. Lindsley is the current Co-Chair of the San Diego County Bar Association's Elder Law Section and is the founder of the San Diego Elder Law Center which he established in 1997.
